BBC Radio 3 will once again be present to record some of the Festivals performances. The Annual Mananan International Festival of Music and Arts is a performing arts festival held every year in late June/ early July at the Erin Arts Centre, Isle of Man. Performances are mainly classical music but has included folk, jazz, cabaret, drama, puppets, lectures and talks, BBC Radio 3 broadcasts, audiences with..... and even flower arranging.latest events

FAMILY FUN DAY- Celebrating 40th Anniversary of the dedication of the Chapel. (Jul05-Jul05) 14:00 - 17:00 FAMILY FUN DAY in the grounds of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' chapel, Woodbourne Road, (weather permitting) from 2 - 5pm on Saturday 5th July. This is to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of the dedication of the chapel which was built, as a labour of love, by local church members with the help of a Church Building Supervisor. Everyone is welcome.

Manx Youth Band and Manx Concert Brass Gala Concert (Jul12-Jul12)

19:30 - 21:30 With guest conductor Derek Broadbent and special guests The Regal Singers The Manx Youth Band & Manx Concert Brass are pleased to welcome special guests the Regal Singers to join them in marking the 30th anniversary of two special events for the band. The Manx Youth Band made their first recording in 1984, an LP titled "Manx Youth", for which Derek Broadbent wrote the band's signature tune of the same name. Derek's association has continued with the Manx Youth Band and Manx Concert Brass since this date and the bands are pleased to welcome Derek as guest conductor for the concert, alongside resident Musical Director Ian Clague M.B.E. The concert will feature pieces from that original recording, a variety of popular classics, as well as items by both bands and the Regal Singers on their own, before joining forces for a grand finale.

Yn Chruinnaght (Jul16-Jul20)

Yn Chruinnaght (meaning 'the gathering') is a celebration of Manx Culture and the relationship between the Isle of Man and the other five Celtic Countries (Scotland, Ireland, Wales, Cornwall and Brittany). It includes a number of events with music, dance, language, arts, crafts, lectures and much more. Full programme is events is available through the Yn Chruinnaght website.

Douglas Carnival (Jul19-Jul19) 12:00 - 22:00 Douglas Carnival revived by the Council as Island of Culture 2014 swings into action. Event to be held on Saturday July 19th along Douglas promenade.

Sun 15th Sept: “Roll Film!” CERT PG Broadway Cinema 5pm-7pm Three of the UK Independent Film Industry’s leading authorities share all. Event Summary The festival closes with what should prove to be a fascinating, enlightening and hugely entertaining evening. Actor, Producer and Chairman of Distrify David Wilkinson takes to the stage with his Guerilla Films co-Founder and London Screenwriters Festival Director Chris Jones. They are joined onstage by Leeds based filmmaker, long time MannIN Shorts supporter and creator of ‘The Filmmakers Journey’ Danny Lacey will join them onstage to host the night. The night promises to be packed with gobsmacking tales of some of the biggest names on and off screen, unbridled access and insight in to the industry and a sneak preview of where it all really began, as Danny and David give an exclusive first look at their latest project together – the extra-ordinary, highly anticipated documentary ‘The First Film’.

Isle of Man Film Festival Guerilla Filmmakers Masterclass Sat 14th & Sun 15th Sept: Guerilla Filmmakers Masterclass 9am – 4pm Colonnade Suite Villa Marina World famous workshop led by Oscar-shortlisted filmmaker Chris Jones, the co-author of Guerilla Filmmakers Handbooks. We are thrilled that Oscar Shortlisted filmmaker Chris Jones – coauthor of the Guerilla Filmmakers Handbooks and Director of London Screenwriters Festival, will bring his internationally acclaimed, two day ‘Guerilla Filmmakers Masterclass’ to the Island. The PokerStars sponsored workshop covers everything from story to budget to casting, alongwith camera, sound, post production, distribution and so much more. A not-to-be-missed opportunity for anyone with an interest in film and filmmaking, the feedback on the course is plentiful and enthusiastic; writer Stephen Pelly said, for instance:‘I learnt more in 2 days than in 2 years worth of Media Studies!’ Takes place in the Colonnade Suite 9-4pm each day. Isle of Man Film Festival- Day four Sat 14th Sept: Young Filmmaker of Mann *Free to the Public* CERT PG Broadway Cinema 2pm-4pm Tenth anniversary of the Isle of Man Arts Council’s popular film competition for under 18s. Event Summary We’re extremely proud to include the Young Filmmaker of Mann competition in the festival programme. The always popular competition has become an established outlet for young Manx filmmakers to showcase their talent. It culminates with the Awards Ceremony and screening, which is free and open to the public. Winning films will be shown for a second time in the evening, as part of our ‘Home Grown MiniMovies‘ event. Sat 14th Sept: HomeGrown MiniMovies! CERT 12A Broadway Cinema 5pm-7pm MannIN Shorts Presents first look at short films made within the scheme. Includes screening and awards for IOMFF2013 Open Short Film Competition Event Summary The Isle of Man short film training initiative, now it’s in 3rd year, showcases a selection of films made within it’s scheme. “Solace in Wicca”, “Closet” and the recently completed “Barry Brown” will all be previewed in full for the first time. Writers, cast and crew for each of the films received hands on training and guidance from industry professionals attached to the MannIN Shorts training scheme and the productions themselves were made possible with financial assistance from the Isle of Man Arts Council, Manx Heritage Foundation and the generosity of numerous Manx companies who we are forever grateful to.

Also part of the ‘HomeGrown’ evening, the IOMFF2013 Short Film Competition winners will be screened and awards presented. Categories for this open Competition include the Skandia Best of the Fest Award, Manx Educational Foundation awards for ‘Music Moves’ and ‘Island Life’ categories, the SMP Best Fiction award and Heritage Homes Best Documentary. In addition to cash prizes and statuettes, Pinewood Pictures has offered to take one lucky winner on a tour of their state of the art facilities. The panel of judges is headed up by BBC Film Critic and Island of Culture Patron Mark Kermode and includes Oscar shortlisted filmmaker Chris Jones and his ‘Guerilla Films’ partner David Wilkinson, who is also Chairman of Distrify. They are joined by representatives from the Isle of Man Arts Council and Isle of Man Film.

Friday 13th Sept: ‘The Disappearance of Alice Creed’ with J Blakeson CERT 18 Broadway Cinema 730pm Isle of Film Film Presents special Q&A Screening, with Writer/Director in attendance Night to be hosted by Chris Jones, Director of London Screenwriters Festival Event Summary Critically acclaimed film, starring Eddie Marsan and Gemma Arterton, made on the Island by CinemaNX in 2009. Vic (Marsan), an experienced criminal, and Danny (Compston), his younger partner, meticulously prepare a van and a flat for use in a kidnapping. They snatch Alice (Arterton), estranged daughter of a millionaire, and keep her bound and blindfolded while negotiating the ransom. However, the abductors and the hostage all have secrets which complicate the situation… Total Film: “A grippingly twisted thriller” Empire Online: “A small but perfectly formed crime drama. Thurs 12th Sept: FUTURE SHORTS FRINGE CERT 12A 730pm Specially selected reel of films from world’s largest distribution network Patchwork Cafe Port St Mary, Bath & Bottle Speakeasy Cinema Douglas, Northern Lights Community Centre Ramsey Tickets: £5 from the venues. Doors 7pm, Start 730pm Event Summary A specially selected reel of films from FutureShorts.com – the world’s largest online distribution network, which was started by Manxman Fabien Riggall who has since gone on to create the “Secret Cinema” phenomenon. The films will be shown at the Patchwork Cafe in Port St Mary, Northern Lights Community Centre Ramsey and at the Bath and Bottle Speakeasy Cinema in Douglas at the same time on the same night. These cinemas are small, so we suggest buying your tickets in advance so you don’t miss out on what promises to be that start of something really special!

Doors 7pm, Start 7.45pm Event Summary Preview of the first feature by Manx-born film-maker Andy Blackburn, previously short-listed by the BBC as new filmmaker of year and currently directing primetime commercials for leading brands such as Vodafone and Morrisons. The evening will include:- Brief introduction from Andy followed by an exclusive first look at his latest feature film, ‘Being Nice’. After the screening, ten minute talk ’10 things I learnt making my debut feature film’ covering shooting format, editing, planning etc. giving you all the insider tips for first time film makers. The evening will be concluded with a Q&A Session with the Writer Director.
